Aeonium dodrantale

Mountain Rose flourishes in dry environments and requires watering only about once every three weeks. It prefers dry soil and is highly drought-tolerant, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens and xeriscapes. Its water-storing leaves allow it to withstand long periods of low rainfall.

Native to arid regions, Mountain Rose grows best in full sun, as its natural habitat features intense sunlight and little shade. It can also tolerate partial sun, providing some flexibility in its growth.

Although Mountain Rose tolerates some heat, it mainly flourishes and grows in cooler seasons and becomes dormant during summer. In hot summer weather, it should be given shade to prevent scorching from intense sunlight. Watering should be reduced or stopped during the hottest part of the year to avoid root rot. Winter and spring are when Mountain Rose grows vigorously. As long as temperatures do not fall too low, it will continue to grow steadily.

For Mountain Rose, light doses of fertilizer once or twice a year during the growing season are enough. Do not fertilize in winter or in summer when the plant is dormant. Cut back on fertilizer for plants that have been repotted and wait a couple of months after repotting before feeding. Fertilizing helps maintain healthy growth and promotes blooms.

To preserve the shape of the mountain rose, prune any excess or dense branches in the spring and fall using tools such as knives or scissors. For propagation, cut a sturdy stem with 5-6 leaves, apply sulfur powder to the cut, and plant it in slightly moist soil once it has healed.
