ON THIS PLANT

Anthurium argyrostachyum is a species of plant in the genus Anthurium native to Ecuador and Colombia. Growing as a small shrub or an epiphyte, it is best recognized by its foliage that has triangular or arrowhead-like shape, a long central lobe, and parallel veins. It is a member of the section Polyneurium, and is thus related to Anthurium corrugatum, Anthurium panduriforme, and others that share its parallel venation and other characteristics.

A note from PlantMom

Anthurium argyrostachyum has strong disease resistance and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. However, it can be prone to leaf spots if light and ventilation are poor and if watering is excessive. The plant's care level is considered easy, since it mainly requires regular watering and little else. Anthurium argyrostachyum is suitable for people who lack the time and energy to devote to regular care.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Anthurium Argyrostachyum.

Light

Anthurium argyrostachyum is native to habitats such as forest understories and rocky areas, where it grows in natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can adapt to full sun or full shade, showing its versatile and hardy nature.

Temperature

Anthurium argyrostachyum is native to tropical locations, known for their hot and moist climates. Consequently, this plant is well-suited to warm, humid conditions and doesn't fare well with sudden changes in temperature, needing an environment with a consistent temperature. Generally, it can't withstand cold climates and needs a warmer environment to thrive. If the surrounding temperature becomes too chilly, the anthurium argyrostachyum could stop growing or potentially perish.

Fertilizer

Anthurium argyrostachyum needs the most fertilizer during its active growth period, which falls mainly in spring, summer, and early fall. Fertilization supplies essential nutrients the soil may lack, encouraging healthy root and stem growth and supporting the plant’s attractive foliage, a notable characteristic of this species.

Pot & Repot

Transplant the Anthurium argyrostachyum during the warm seasons of spring or summer. Choose a moderately larger pot that provides efficient drainage. After repotting, drench the plant completely and position it in a location with bright, diffused light. As the plant develops, contemplate integrating a moss pole for additional stability.
