Anthurium clidemioides is a species of plant in the genus Anthurium native to Costa Rica, Panama, and Colombia. One of the more distinctive Anthuriums, it is a vining climber with almost stalkless, bullate leaves that can range from light to very dark green. Along with Anthurium flexile it is one of only two species in the genus that produces roots between nodes.
Anthurium clidemioides has strong resistance to disease and is generally not prone to illness. However, it can develop leaf spots if light and ventilation are poor and watering is excessive. The plant's care level is considered easy, since it only needs regular watering and does not require much attention otherwise. Anthurium clidemioides is suitable for people who do not have much time or energy to devote to regular care.
How to keep Anthurium Clidemioides.
Light
Anthurium clidemioides naturally occurs in habitats like forest understories or rocky sites, where it is exposed to natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can adjust to full sun or deep shade, reflecting its adaptable, hardy character.
Temperature
Anthurium clidemioides hails from tropical areas, where the climate is generally warm and humid. Consequently, it is well suited to high temperatures and humidity. It dislikes abrupt temperature changes and prefers a steady thermal environment, so avoiding indoor temperature fluctuations is important. It usually cannot tolerate cold and needs higher temperatures to grow. If the ambient temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.
Fertilizer
Anthurium clidemioides demands the highest amount of fertilizer during its phase of active growth, predominantly in the spring, summer, and the beginning of fall. Nutrient supplementation is vital to supply crucial nutrients that might not be present in the soil, encouraging robust root and stem growth, as well as appealing leaves, a significant characteristic of this specific plant.
Pot & Repot
Repot Anthurium clidemioides in spring or summer when it’s warm enough, using a pot that’s just a bit larger and has good drainage. Water thoroughly after repotting, and place the plant in bright, indirect light. Consider using a moss pole to support the plant as it grows.
