Aquilegia, commonly known as columbines, is a genus of perennial flowering plants in the family Ranunculaceae (buttercups). The genus includes between 70 and 400 taxa with natural ranges across the Northern Hemisphere. Natural and introduced populations of Aquilegia exist on all continents but Antarctica. Known for their high physical variability and ease of hybridization, columbines are popular garden plants and have been used to create many cultivated varieties.
Aquilegia viscosa demonstrates good resistance to disease and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. In terms of care, the plant is fairly low-maintenance. Planted outdoors it requires minimal watering, and larger specimens typically do not need pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have finished blooming. Aquilegia viscosat is suitable for anyone with an outdoor space, such as a garden or deck, and does not require much prior care experience.
