Astroloba spiralis is a small succulent plant of the Astroloba genus, endemic to the southern Karoo regions of the Western and Eastern Cape Provinces, South Africa.

Care Guide

💧 Water
☀️ Light Partial sun

The Kleinkaroo Astroloba is native to habitats that receive speckled sunlight, like the lower layers of forests or rocky regions that offer natural shelter. It thrives best in partially sunny conditions, but it can also withstand exposure to full sunlight.

Ideal: Partial sun
🌡️ Temperature 20–37.8°C

Kleinkaroo Astroloba can withstand some heat, but it chiefly flourishes and expands in the colder periods, becoming inactive during the summer season. It's vital to provide shelter in the high heat of summer to avoid burning from strong sunlight. During the peak summer heat, watering needs to be minimized or stopped to avoid the roots from rotting. The plant witnesses robust growth in the winter and spring seasons. Provided the temperature doesn't become extremely low, it will persist in its steady growth.

Ideal temperature: 20–37.8°C
💨 Humidity dry (<40%)

This plant prefers dry conditions, so don't mist it. However, watering it less often can also thrive in higher humidity.

Humidity: dry (<40%)

Soil pH: 6-7
🌱 Fertilizer

For the Kleinkaroo Astroloba, a small quantity of fertilizer applied 1-2 times annually during the growth cycle is sufficient. It's advisable not to fertilize during the dormant seasons of winter and summer. For plants that have been repotted, cut back on fertilizer and allow a few months post-repotting before adding any. Providing fertilizer aids in promoting robust growth and helps stimulate flowering.

🪴 Pot & Repot Every 2 years

When transferring a Kleinkaroo Astroloba to a new pot, pick a container that is marginally bigger than the current one and make sure it has excellent drainage. Use a gritty succulent or cactus blend that drains well. Gently extract the plant from its previous pot, shake off additional dirt, and replant it at the same depth. Allow any harm to the roots to recover by delaying watering for a few days. The best time to repot is during spring or fall, and the location should be well-lit.
