Care Guide
💧 Water
☀️ Light Full sun
Originating from dry areas, the Old man opuntia does best in full sun, since its native habitat features intense sunlight and very little shade. It will also tolerate partial sun, giving it some flexibility in how it grows.
🌡️ Temperature 20–37.8°C
Old man opuntia does best in warm environments and needs higher temperatures during the growing season to encourage growth and support metabolism. It prefers abundant sunlight, appropriate moisture, and good ventilation. However, it can be harmed by excessively low temperatures and by too much watering. It's important to maintain a balance and avoid both excessively high temperatures and overly dry conditions.

🌱 Fertilizer
For Old man opuntia, light applications of fertilizer once or twice a year during the growing season are sufficient. Avoid fertilizing in winter and in summer when it is dormant. Cut back on fertilizer for repotted plants and wait a couple of months after repotting before fertilizing. Fertilizing supports healthy growth and encourages blooms.
🪴 Pot & Repot 2-3 years
Repot Old man opuntia in spring or summer, selecting a pot slightly larger than the current one with good drainage. Use a well-draining, sandy or gritty cactus mix. Handle the plant carefully to avoid its spikes. Allow the cactus to dry out before repotting to prevent root rot. After repotting, wait one week before watering to let the roots heal.
