Begonia cleopatrae originates from habitats such as forest understories and rocky areas, where it grows in natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can tolerate both full sun and full shade, showing its adaptable and hardy character.

Begonia cleopatrae comes from tropical areas, which usually have warm, humid climates. Consequently, it is adapted to higher heat and moisture. It dislikes abrupt temperature changes and prefers a steady thermal environment, so avoiding temperature swings indoors is important. It generally cannot tolerate cold and needs relatively warm conditions to grow. If temperatures fall too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

Begonia cleopatrae requires the largest amount of fertilizer during its active growth period, which takes place mainly in spring, summer, and early fall. Fertilization is needed to supply essential nutrients that the soil might lack, supporting healthy root and stem growth as well as the attractive foliage that is a defining trait of this plant.
