Begonia micranthera is native to habitats like forest understories or rocky sites, where it occurs in natural shade. It favors partial sun but can adjust to full sun or deep shade, showing its adaptable, hardy nature.

Begonia micranthera comes from tropical areas, where the climate is typically warm and humid. Consequently, it is well adapted to high temperatures and humidity. It does not tolerate sudden temperature changes and prefers a stable temperature environment, so avoiding temperature fluctuations indoors is important. It generally cannot withstand cold temperatures and requires warmer conditions for growth. If the surrounding temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

Begonia micranthera needs the most fertilizer during its active growth period, which mainly takes place in spring, summer, and early fall. Fertilization is required to supply essential nutrients the soil may lack, encouraging healthy root and stem growth as well as the attractive foliage that is a defining characteristic of this plant.
