Rough is a sun-loving perennial herbaceous plant native to open habitats, frequently found in meadows and grasslands. It prefers full sun but can also tolerate partial sun.

Rough does well in warm conditions. It prefers moderately high temperatures but not extremely hot and humid ones. Sunlight helps warm the plant and encourages flowering. However, extended exposure to direct sun in summer can cause sunburn, so the amount of sunlight it gets should be managed during that season. The plant is generally not tolerant of cold and needs sufficient protection and warmer conditions in winter to avoid freezing.

Adequate fertilization is essential for Rough's health and appearance. Apply fertilizer to Rough in summer, repeating the treatment every month during the season. Nutrients drive growth and support the plant's structures. Fertilizing improves Rough's flower display, producing the best blooms.

When repotting Rough, select a slightly larger pot with good drainage, ideally a clear orchid pot. Use a well-draining, orchid-specific mix that contains bark or moss. Gently clean the roots and trim any that are dead or rotting. Repot after flowering, typically in spring or fall, water thoroughly, and place in bright, indirect light. Avoid disturbing the roots once repotted.
