Brimeura amethystina, the amethyst hyacinth, is a flowering plant of the asparagus family Asparagaceae, native to the Northern Pyrenees and north east Spain. The record from the Kapela mountain (Croatia) by Reichenbach (1830) is probably a confusion with some Hyacinthella taxon growing in the Balkan area. The amethyst hyacinth, a small bulbous herbaceous perennial to 20 cm (7.9 in), it has narrow grass-like leaves, and widely-spaced bell flowers in shades of pale blue, dark blue or violet in Spring. There is also a white cultivar ‘Alba’. It was formerly placed in the hyacinth genus Hyacinthus. The Latin specific epithet amethystina means “violet coloured”.In cultivation in the UK this plant has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
The Pyrenean hyacinth is fairly disease-resistant and typically not prone to illnesses. Still, it can be vulnerable to pests and diseases present in its environment, though such issues are generally mild. For care, the plant needs moderate maintenance. It should be pruned regularly to preserve a neat appearance and encourage healthy growth. Fertilizing can also boost flowering. This hyacinth is appropriate for anyone with outdoor space, like a garden or patio, and does not demand extensive gardening experience. It may need more attention if kept indoors.
How to keep Brimeura Amethystina.
Light
Pyrenean hyacinth is native to habitats like forest understories or rocky areas, where it grows under natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can tolerate full sun or full shade, showing its versatile and hardy nature.
Fertilizer
The best time to fertilize a Pyrenean hyacinth is in early spring, as it emerges from dormancy and starts active growth. Fertilizer supplies essential nutrients for healthy development. Although the Pyrenean hyacinth needs relatively little feeding, a yearly application can improve its survival and encourage better, longer-lasting blooms.
