Care Guide

💧 Water
☀️ Light Full sun

Long key locustberry is native to open habitats, such as sunny meadows and forest margins, which receive abundant light. It does best in Full Sun but will also tolerate Partial Sun, adapting well to different sunlight conditions.

Ideal: Full sun
🌡️ Temperature 20–37.8°C

The long key locustberry comes from tropical areas, where the climate is generally warm and humid. Consequently, it is well adapted to high heat and moisture. It is sensitive to sudden temperature changes and prefers steady temperatures, so indoor temperature swings should be avoided. It typically cannot tolerate cold and needs relatively high temperatures to grow. If the surrounding temperature falls too low, growth may stop or the plant may die.

🌱 Fertilizer

Early spring, as the Long key locustberry comes out of dormancy, is the best time to fertilize it. This encourages overall growth and the development of flowers. Fertilizing improves the foliage, stems, and branches, while encouraging flowers that are larger, more vibrant, and longer-lasting. It also helps move nutrients from the roots to the flowers and enhances the plant's health and resistance to disease.

✂️ Pruning

The evergreen shrub known as the long key locustberry benefits greatly from early spring pruning. To enhance air circulation, focus on removing dead branches and thinning out crowded areas. Making precise cuts just above the nodes encourages healthy growth and blooming. Additionally, using sterilized tools helps reduce the risk of infection.
