Persian lime (Citrus × latifolia), also known by other common names such as seedless lime, Bearss lime and Tahiti lime, is a citrus fruit species of hybrid origin, known only in cultivation. The Persian lime is a triploid cross between key lime (Citrus × aurantiifolia) and lemon (Citrus × limon).Although there are other citrus species that are referred to as "limes", the Persian lime is the most widely cultivated lime species commercially, and accounts for the largest share of the fruits sold as limes. The fruit turns yellow as it ripens, but it is universally sold while still green.
Tahiti lime is resistant to diseases and typically does not suffer from them. In terms of care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. However, smaller plants should be pruned after they have finished blooming. Tahiti lime is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or a deck, and does not require extensive care experience.
How to keep Citrus Latifolia.
Light
Tahiti lime comes from open habitats, such as sunny meadows and the edges of forests, which supply abundant light. It performs best in Full Sun but can also withstand Partial Sun, adjusting well to different light conditions.
Temperature
Tahiti lime has good temperature adaptability; it can withstand high heat and fairly wide temperature fluctuations. In hot weather, attention should be paid to irrigation and providing adequate shade to avoid sunburn. Conversely, Tahiti lime is less tolerant of low temperatures. Although it can endure some cold, very low temperatures may cause frost damage.
Fertilizer
The Tahiti lime plant needs adequate nutrients to achieve optimal fruit production. Apply fertilizer in early spring to encourage new growth and flowering. Regular feeding keeps the plant healthy, yields more flavorful fruit, and prevents nutrient deficiency problems such as yellowing leaves and reduced fruit production.
