Corema album, the Portuguese crowberry ; Spanish: camarina; French: camarine, is a species of flowering plant in the family Ericaceae endemic to the Iberian Peninsula, Aquitaine, and the Azores (sub-species), where it may also be considered a different species. The only other species of the same genus is Corema conradii, found in North America.

Care Guide

💧 Water
☀️ Light Full sun

Portugese crowberry is native to open habitats, such as sunny meadows and forest edges, where plenty of light is available. It thrives in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, adjusting well to a variety of sunlight conditions.

Ideal: Full sun
🌡️ Temperature 15–35°C

Portugese crowberry demonstrates good temperature adaptability, tolerating higher heat and considerable temperature fluctuations. At high temperatures, care should be taken with watering and providing suitable shade to avoid sunburn. However, Portugese crowberry has relatively low tolerance for cold. While it can endure some chill, excessively low temperatures may cause frost damage.

🌱 Fertilizer

Fertilize your Portugese crowberry in early spring to encourage healthy growth. Regular feeding boosts overall health, leading to vigorous growth, increased tolerance of harsh conditions, and enhanced resistance to pests and diseases. Keep a consistent fertilization schedule for your Portugese crowberry to preserve lush foliage with deep color and a full appearance.

✂️ Pruning

The Portuguese crowberry is known for its dense foliage and small white berries. To keep it healthy and productive, it's important to prune it every year in early spring. When pruning, focus on removing any dead wood and thinning out crowded branches to improve air circulation and sunlight exposure. This not only helps maintain the plant's shape, but also encourages growth and enhances berry production. Be sure to use sterilized tools to prevent the spread of diseases.
