ON THIS PLANT

Cyphostemma hypoleucum is a species of succulent plant in the family Vitaceae. It is native to the arid regions of southern Africa, particularly Namibia and South Africa. This plant features a thick, woody stem that can grow up to 2 meters in height and 30 centimeters in diameter, covered with grayish-white bark that peels off easily.

The large, fleshy, green leaves of Cyphostemma hypoleucum are characterized by prominent veins. Arranged alternately along the stem, these leaves can reach up to 20 centimeters in length and 15 centimeters in width.

The plant produces small, greenish-yellow flowers that form in clusters at the ends of long stalks known as inflorescences. These flowers bloom from late summer through early autumn.

Indigenous people commonly use Cyphostemma hypoleucum for medicinal purposes, treating ailments such as stomach problems, fever, headaches, and snake bites.

In cultivation or as an ornamental plant, Cyphostemma hypoleucum requires well-draining soil mixtures with added sand or perlite for better drainage. It needs full sun exposure but should be protected from extreme heat during the summer months. Watering should be done sparingly in the winter and more frequently during the growing season (spring-summer).

Overall, Cyphostemma hypoleucum makes an interesting addition to any succulent collection due to its unique appearance and the traditional medicinal properties utilized by indigenous people for centuries.
