CARE GUIDE

How to keep Grusonia Schottii.

Water

The Big Bend prickly pear cactus thrives in dry environments and needs watering only when the soil becomes dry. From spring to fall, water the plant 1-2 times per week. In winter, reduce the frequency to once a week. It's best to use rainwater or distilled water to prevent soil compaction caused by tap water. Additionally, try to avoid splashing the stems to prevent rot.

Pruning

The Big Bend prickly pear is a unique cactus with spiny, paddle-shaped segments. For optimal health, prune it in early spring by removing any damaged parts to prevent infection. Be careful not to over-prune, as this can hinder its growth and flowering. Light, occasional pruning improves airflow and sunlight exposure, which supports the overall health of the plant.
