Ilex integra, the elegance female holly, also called mochi tree, is an ornamental tree of the holly genus, which is native to parts of Asia, including Korea; Taiwan; the mid-southern regions of China; and Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. Its flower is light yellow. The species was botanically described in 1784.
The Mochi tree is quite resistant to disease and generally not susceptible to illnesses. Regarding maintenance, this plant is relatively low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs minimal watering, and larger plants typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. The Mochi tree is appropriate for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand much hands-on care experience.
How to keep Ilex Integra.
Light
The mochi tree flourishes when subjected to plentiful light, though it can also survive in moderate light conditions. In the environment where it originally comes from, it thrives when under an entirely unobstructed sky. Exposure to either excessive or insufficient light might impede its growth, impacting the development of leaves and the general vitality of the plant.
Temperature
The Mochi tree thrives best in climates with temperatures ranging between 59 and 95 °F (15 to 35 ℃). Being indigenous to regions with temperate climates, it favors milder temperatures. For seasons of intense heat or cold, it might necessitate modifications like providing shade or applying mulch.
Fertilizer
The timing for applying fertilizers to the Mochi tree is vital. Begin fertilization in the initial phase of spring, proceeding on a monthly basis until the start of summer. The use of fertilizers aids in yielding beautiful blossoms and supplying energy during periods of both dormancy and active growth.
