A note from PlantMom

Sacky sac bean is resistant to disease and generally not susceptible to illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only minimal watering, and larger plants typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they bloom. Sacky sac bean is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or deck, and does not require much experience in plant care.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Inga Laurina.

Light

Sacky sac bean comes from open habitats, like sunny meadows and forest edges, which offer abundant light. It performs best in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, adapting well to different sunlight conditions.

Temperature

Sacky sac bean comes from tropical areas, where the climate is typically warm and humid. Consequently, it is well adapted to high temperatures and humidity. It is not fond of sudden temperature changes and prefers a stable temperature, so avoiding temperature fluctuations indoors is important. It generally does not tolerate cold and requires higher temperatures to grow. If the ambient temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

Fertilizer

The best time to fertilize a Sacky sac bean is in early spring, when it comes out of dormancy. Doing so supports general growth and encourages flower development. Fertilization improves the foliage, stems, and branches and helps produce flowers that are large, colorful, and long-lasting. It also assists nutrient movement from the roots to the flowers and strengthens the plant’s overall health and resistance to disease.

Pruning

The Sacky Sac Bean plant features evergreen leaves and fragrant white flowers. To encourage growth and improve flowering, prune the plant in early spring. Remove any dead branches and thin out crowded areas. Use clean, sharp tools during pruning to reduce the risk of disease, and shape the plant to your desired size and form.
