Kalanchoe rosei

Kalanchoe rosei is native to places with dappled or filtered light, such as forest understories or rocky locations that offer natural shade. It favors partial sun but can tolerate full sun as well.

Although Kalanchoe rosei tolerates some heat, it mainly prospers and develops in cooler periods and becomes dormant during the summer. In high summer temperatures, shading is necessary to avoid leaf scorching from strong sunlight. Watering should be cut back or stopped in the hottest months to avoid root rot. Winter and spring are when Kalanchoe rosei shows robust growth, and it will keep growing steadily provided the temperature does not fall too low.

For Kalanchoe rosei, applying fertilizer once or twice a year during the growing season is sufficient. Avoid fertilizing in winter and in summer when the plant is dormant. Cut back on feeding for repotted plants and wait a couple of months after repotting before you fertilize. Fertilizing supports healthy growth and encourages flowering.

When repotting Kalanchoe rosei, choose a pot a little bigger than the current one that provides good drainage. Fill it with a well-draining, gritty succulent or cactus mix. Gently take the plant out of its old container, remove excess soil, and set it in at the same depth. Wait several days before watering so any root damage can heal. Repot during spring or fall and place the plant in a brightly lit location.
