ON THIS PLANT

Leptadenia pyrotechnica (Hindi: खींप; Punjabi: ਖਿੱਪ) is the botanical name of a desert herb of the family Apocynaceae. It is widespread from Senegal to India. It is known as khimp in Hindi and Urdu, and khipp in Punjabi.Being highly drought-resistant, Leptadenia pyrotechnica has played an important role in the desert afforestation programs. The herb khimp is a strong soil binder and, as such, is one of the pioneer species in sand dune fixation.

A note from PlantMom

kheep is resistant to disease and generally not prone to illness. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. Planted outdoors it needs minimal watering, and larger specimens normally do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have bloomed. kheept is well suited to anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand extensive care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Leptadenia Pyrotechnica.

Light

kheep comes from open habitats, such as sunny meadows and forest edges, which provide abundant light. It thrives in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, adapting well to various sunlight conditions.

Temperature

kheep comes from tropical areas, where the climate is generally warm and humid. Therefore it is well adapted to high heat and humidity. It does not tolerate sudden temperature changes and prefers a steady temperature, so avoiding indoor temperature fluctuations is important. It generally cannot endure cold and needs warmer conditions to grow. If the surrounding temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

Fertilizer

Fertilizing is essential for kheep care. Regular feeding during the growing season maintains the energy needed for its showy leaves and supports overall growth. Failing to fertilize can lead to unhealthy leaves, reduced ornamental quality, and stunted or weak growth that is prone to breaking.
