Description
Source: leafsnapLilium longiflorum (Japanese: テッポウユリ, Teppōyuri), often called the Easter lily, is a plant endemic to both Taiwan and Ryukyu Islands (Japan). Lilium formosanum, a closely related species from Taiwan, has been treated as a variety of Easter lily in the past. It is a stem rooting lily, growing up to 1 m (3 ft 3 in) high. It bears a number of trumpet shaped, white, fragrant, and outward facing flowers.
💡 If you have a cat, it's important to be cautious with Easter lilies. The Latin name for this plant is Lilium longiflorum, and it, along with some other lily species, is toxic to cats. Easter lily toxins primarily target the kidneys. However, the first signs of poisoning are usually vomiting and lethargy. Cats appear to be the only domestic animals severely affected by consuming Easter lilies.
🌳 The Easter lily (Lilium longiflorum) is a popular garden plant known for its large, striking white flowers. It not only brightens up summer gardens but also attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. As a border plant, the Easter lily pairs beautifully with other summer-flowering plants, making it a rewarding addition to any garden. It is an excellent choice for courtyard, city, and cottage gardens, creating a stunning display when combined with crocuses, hyacinths, and narcissi.
