Algerian sea lavender is a sun-loving perennial herbaceous plant native to open habitats, where it often grows in meadows and grasslands. It prefers full sun but will also tolerate partial sun.

Algerian sea lavender is fairly adaptable to heat, tolerating higher temperatures and wide temperature fluctuations. In hot weather, pay close attention to watering and provide adequate shade to prevent sunscald. Conversely, it has limited cold tolerance; while it can handle some chill, very cold conditions may cause frost damage.

The best time to fertilize an Algerian sea lavender is in early spring, as it comes out of dormancy and begins active growth. Feeding supplies essential nutrients needed for healthy development. Even though Algerian sea lavender requires relatively little fertilization, applying fertilizer once a year can improve its chances of survival and encourage stronger, longer-lasting blooms.

To encourage healthy growth and an abundance of lavender-colored blooms, prune Algerian sea lavender in early spring. Start by removing any dead stems and trimming back old growth by one-third. This will improve air circulation, reduce the risk of disease, and ensure the plant is more aesthetically pleasing.
