Litsea calicaris, the mangeao, is an evergreen tree endemic to the North Island of New Zealand, occurring in lowland forest from near North Cape south to about 38°S. It belongs to the Laurel family, Lauraceae.
Mangeao shows strong resistance to disease and is typically not vulnerable to illnesses. Regarding upkeep, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only light watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller specimens, however, should be trimmed after they finish blooming. Mangeaot is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not call for extensive plant-care experience.
