Description

Source: leafsnap

Lotus tenuis is a flowering plant of the pea family Fabaceae, native to western and southern Europe and southwest Asia. Some botanists treat it as a subspecies of Lotus corniculatus, as L. corniculatus subsp. tenuifolius. Its tolerance of salt and poor soil make this plant useful for marginal conditions. It has become naturalised in many other locations, including the Pampas of Argentina, and parts of the United States. Common names include narrowleaf trefoil, narrow-leaved bird's-foot-trefoil, slender trefoil, creeping trefoil, or prostrate trefoil.

Care Guide

☀️ Light Full sun

Narrow-leaved bird's-foot-trefoil is a perennial, herbaceous plant that prefers sunny sites and originates from open habitats, frequently prospering in meadows and grasslands. Its light preference is full sun, though it can also tolerate partial sun conditions.

Ideal: Full sun
🌡️ Temperature 15–35°C

Narrow-leaved bird's-foot-trefoil tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions, from hot summers to cold winters. However, it does have an optimal temperature range for growth. If temperatures become too high, the plant can experience heat and humidity stress, which may kill it. In areas where temperatures approach the lower limit of its cold tolerance, insulating the plant is necessary to protect it.
