Dendrolycopodium obscurum, synonym Lycopodium obscurum, commonly called rare clubmoss, ground pine, or princess pine, is a North American species of clubmoss in the family Lycopodiaceae. It is a close relative of other species such as D. dendroideum and D. hickeyi, also treelike. It is native to the eastern United States and southeastern Canada from Georgia to Minnesota to Nova Scotia. It grows in the understory of temperate coniferous and deciduous forests, where it is involved in seral secondary succession, growing in clonal colonies some years after disturbance has occurred. It has also been found in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Russian Far East, and northeastern China.
Flat-Branched Tree-Clubmoss is disease-resistant and typically not susceptible to illnesses. For care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. Planted outdoors, it needs minimal watering, and larger plants usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have bloomed. Flat-Branched Tree-Clubmosst is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor area, like a garden or deck, and does not need extensive plant-care experience.
How to keep Lycopodium Obscurum.
Light
The flat-Branched Tree-Clubmoss prefers areas with low-intensity sunlight, thriving particularly in dappled light. It is also resilient enough to persist where light is limited or diffuse. Although it comes from habitats with varied light conditions, its growth can be hindered by either excessive sun exposure or a pronounced lack of it.
Humidity
This plant needs special care because it loves high humidity levels of 60-80% or more. The best way to achieve this is by placing a humidifier near the plant. Daily misting is also essential! Make sure the room has good ventilation.
Temperature
Flat-Branched Tree-Clubmoss shows strong adaptability to a variety of climate conditions, whether facing scorching summers or chilly winters. However, it does have an optimal temperature range for growth. When temperatures become excessively high, the plant is prone to heat and humidity stress, which can lead to its death. In areas where temperatures approach the lower limit of its cold tolerance, it is important to implement insulation measures to protect the plant.
Fertilizer
Fertilize your Flat-Branched Tree-Clubmoss in early spring to encourage healthy growth. Regular feeding improves overall health, producing vigorous growth, greater tolerance of difficult conditions, and increased resistance to pests and diseases. Keep a set fertilization schedule for your Flat-Branched Tree-Clubmoss to maintain foliage that is vibrant, richly colored, and lush in appearance.
