Description
Source: leafsnapMelaleuca ericifolia, commonly known as swamp paperbark, is a plant in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae and the genus Melaleuca, native to south-eastern Australia. It is a rather variable species and some specimens resemble Melaleuca armillaris but its papery bark and smaller, more prolific flower heads distinguish it from that species. It often grows in swampy areas and the draining and clearing of these has reduced the numbers of the species, especially around Port Philip Bay near Melbourne. It is also similar to Melaleuca pustulata, a Tasmanian endemic, but that species only grows in dry heath.

☀️ Light Full sun
Swamp paperbark comes from open habitats, such as sunny meadows and forest edges, that provide plenty of light. It flourishes in full sun but can also tolerate partial sun, adapting well to a range of sunlight conditions.
What are the sunlight requirements for Swamp Paperbark (Melaleuca ericifolia)?
Swamp Paperbark (Melaleuca ericifolia) thrives in conditions that meet specific sunlight requirements. For optimal growth, it requires full sun, which is defined as receiving more than 6 hours of sunlight daily. However, it can also grow well in partial sun, described as about 3-6 hours of sunlight each day. It's crucial to observe the sunlight's movement through your garden to choose locations that provide a perfect balance of light and shade, ensuring the plants are happy and healthy.
🌡️ Temperature 20–37.8°C
The swamp paperbark is highly adaptable to a variety of climatic conditions, handling both scorching summers and cold winters. Nevertheless, it has an optimal temperature range for healthy growth. If temperatures rise too far, the plant becomes vulnerable to heat and humidity stress, which can lead to its death. In areas where temperatures near the lower limit of its cold tolerance, applying insulation to protect the plant is important.
What is the botanical name of Swamp paperbark?
The botanical name of Swamp paperbark is Melaleuca ericifolia. This plant is known for its distinctive features and habitat, although specific details about its essentials, content, and symptoms are not provided in the information available.

✂️ Pruning
The swamp paperbark flourishes in wetlands and benefits from pruning in early spring. This helps manage its size and encourages healthier growth. Regularly remove any dead branches to improve air circulation and promote denser foliage, which enhances both the appearance and health of the plant. Always use sharp, clean tools to prevent the spread of disease.
