Khagra comes from tropical areas, where the climate is usually warm and humid. Consequently, it is well-suited to high temperatures and moisture. It does not tolerate sudden temperature changes and prefers a stable thermal environment, so avoiding indoor temperature fluctuations is important. It generally cannot endure cold and needs warmer conditions to grow. If the surrounding temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

Khagra is a perennial grass recognized for its tall stature and strong roots. To control its spread, it is best to prune it in early spring. Cut dead stems down to ground level to encourage new growth and enhance air circulation. This practice results in a healthier and denser stand of khagra.
