Pimelea nivea is a species of flowering plant in the family Thymelaeaceae and is endemic to Tasmania. It is an erect shrub with densely hairy young stems, elliptic to round leaves arranged in opposite pairs, and compact clusters of white or cream-coloured flowers.

A note from PlantMom

The round-leaf rice flower has good resistance to disease and is generally not prone to illness. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only minimal watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have finished flowering. The round-leaf rice flower is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand much gardening experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Pimelea Nivea.

Light

Round-leaf rice flower naturally occurs in habitats such as forest understories and rocky areas, where it receives natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can tolerate full sun or full shade, showing its adaptable and hardy character.

Temperature

The round-leaf rice flower is highly adaptable to different climatic conditions, tolerating both blazing summers and cold winters. Nonetheless, it has an optimal temperature range for growth. If temperatures climb too high, the plant is vulnerable to heat and humidity stress, which can lead to its death. In locations where temperatures approach the lower edge of its cold tolerance, insulating measures should be used to protect the plant.

Fertilizer

The timing of fertilization is important for Round-leaf rice flower. Apply fertilizer in early spring and continue monthly until early summer. Fertilizer encourages attractive blooms and supplies energy during both dormant and active growth phases.
