Pourouma cecropiifolia (Amazon grape, Amazon tree-grape or uvilla; syn. P. multifida) is a species of Pourouma, native to tropical South America, in the western Amazon Basin in northern Bolivia, western Brazil, southeastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru, and southern Venezuela. It is a medium-sized evergreen tree growing to 20 m tall. The leaves are palmately compound, with 9–11 leaflets 10–20 cm long and 2.5–4 cm broad, on a 20 cm petiole. The flowers are white, produced 20 or more together in a 10 cm long inflorescence; it is dioecious, with male and female flowers on separate trees. The fruit is ovoid, 1–2 cm long, purple when ripe, grape-like except for its wintergreen smell; the skin is rough, inedible but easily peeled.
The cut-leaf mint bush has strong resistance to disease and is generally not prone to disease. In terms of care, this plant is relatively low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs minimal watering, and larger plants typically do not require pruning. However, smaller plants should be pruned after they have finished blooming. The cut-leaf mint bush is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or a deck, and does not demand a lot of caregiving experience.
How to keep Pourouma Cecropiifolia.
Light
The cut-leaf mint bush comes from open habitats, such as sunny meadows and forest edges, that provide plentiful light. It performs best in full sun but can also tolerate partial sun, adapting well to a range of light conditions.
Temperature
The cut-leaf mint bush comes from tropical areas, where the climate is usually warm and humid. As a result, it is well suited to high temperatures and humidity. It does not tolerate sudden temperature shifts and prefers a steady thermal environment, so avoiding indoor temperature fluctuations is important. It typically cannot withstand cold and needs higher temperatures to grow. If the surrounding temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.
Fertilizer
Choose organic fertilizers (e.g., fish emulsion, compost) rather than chemical fertilizers for the Cut leaf mint bush. Give young plants higher levels of nitrogen and phosphorus during spring. Incorporate compost or fertilizer prior to or after planting. For mature plants, apply a balanced fertilizer in spring or one formulated for specific nutrient deficiencies. Nutrient deficiency results in small leaves, short or stunted branches, yellowing or bronze foliage, acidic/sour fruits, premature fruit drop, and splitting.
