A note from PlantMom

Haumakoroa is resistant to diseases and generally does not tend to be affected by them. Regarding care, the plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only minimal watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have finished blooming. Haumakoroat is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not need a great deal of care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Raukaua Simplex.

Light

Haumakoroa is native to habitats like forest understories and rocky sites, where it experiences natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can adapt to full sun or full shade, showing its hardy and adaptable nature.

Water

Haumakoroa requires watering every 2 to 3 weeks, with a preference for balanced humidity. Although it can withstand periods of dryness, consistent moisture ensures optimal health. As an evergreen plant, haumakoroa keeps its leaves year-round, so it needs regular watering even during non-growing seasons.

Temperature

Haumakoroa is highly adaptable to a variety of climate conditions, from very hot summers to cold winters. That said, it needs an optimal temperature range for healthy growth. If temperatures become too high, the plant is susceptible to heat and humidity stress, which can lead to its death. In areas where temperatures approach the lower limit of its cold tolerance, it is important to provide insulation to protect the plant.

Fertilizer

Fertilize your Haumakoroa in early spring to encourage healthy growth. Regular fertilization improves overall health, leading to vigorous growth, greater resilience in difficult conditions, and better resistance to pests and disease. Stick to a specific fertilization schedule for your Haumakoroa to maintain vibrant, deeply colored foliage and a lush appearance.

Pruning

Haumakoroa is a plant with glossy leaves and a pyramidal growth habit. For best results, prune it from early to late winter. Focus on removing dead branches and thinning crowded areas to improve air circulation. Pruning not only encourages healthy growth but also helps prevent disease. Make cuts just above a bud or side branch to achieve the best outcomes. Be sure to consult local sources for specific guidance tailored to your area.
