Rhododendron spiciferum (碎米花) is a rhododendron species native to western Guizhou and Yunnan, China, where it grows at altitudes of 800–1,900 m (2,600–6,200 ft). It is a small evergreen shrub growing to 20–60 cm (7.9–23.6 in) in height, with leaves that are narrowly oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 1.2–4 by 0.4–1.2 cm in size. The flowers are pink or rarely white.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Rhododendron Spiciferum.

Water

For optimal care of Rhododendron spiciferum, use rainwater or melted snow, and avoid using alkaline tap water. It's important to test the pH of the water and, if necessary, adjust it with vinegar to ensure it's suitable for the plant. During periods of vigorous growth, water the plant abundantly, but reduce the amount in winter. In summer, water more frequently. It's best to water the plant in the morning, or before noon during winter. Additionally, reduce watering during rainy seasons.

Pruning

Pruning Rhododendron spiciferum during early to late winter helps the plant thrive. Focus on removing dead or damaged wood while maintaining the plant's shape. This practice encourages spring blooms, improves air circulation, and reduces the risk of disease. Always use clean, sharp tools for safe and effective pruning.
