Description

Source: leafsnap

Salix euxina, the eastern crack-willow, is a species of flowering plant in the willow family Salicaceae, native from Turkey to the Caucasus. It was first described by I. V. Belyaeva in 2009. It is one of the parents of the common crack-willow, Salix × fragilis.

🌳 The flexible young branches of crack willow have traditionally been harvested for weaving. They are especially pliable when young, making them ideal for producing intricate items such as baskets, fish traps, and even living sculptures in the form of living willow structures. The practice, rooted in centuries-old techniques, continues to tell a story of sustainable craftsmanship and culturally important artisanship.

☀️ Light Full sun

The crack willow does best when exposed to sunlight throughout the day, preferring abundant sun. However, it can also adapt to areas with less illumination. Too little sunlight may slow its growth, while too much can scorch it. Its native habitat receives plenty of sun.
