Iron shrub is found in habitats with dappled light, such as forest understories or rocky locations that offer natural shade. It does best in partial sun but can also tolerate full sun conditions.

The iron shrub comes from tropical areas, where the climate is usually warm and humid. Consequently, it is adapted to high heat and moisture. It does not tolerate sudden temperature shifts and prefers a consistent temperature, so avoiding indoor fluctuations is important. It generally cannot withstand cold and needs warmer conditions to grow. If the surrounding temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

When most of the Iron shrub's blooms have opened and reached full size, resume fertilizing. At the peak bloom period, apply fertilizer every three to four weeks, as weather permits. Once the Iron shrub begins producing fewer new blooms, cease fertilizing; there is no need to feed the plant when it can no longer produce additional flowers.

The iron shrub is known for its upright growth and resilience. To enhance its health and appearance, prune it from early to late spring. Remove any damaged or crowded branches to promote better air circulation and reduce the risk of disease. Always use clean, sharp tools to make precise cuts.
