Sedum montanum

Originating from arid areas, Sempervivum montanum subsp. montanum prospers in full sun, its native habitat having strong sunlight and very little shade. It also tolerates partial sun, which gives it some flexibility in growth.

Although Sempervivum montanum subsp. montanum can tolerate some heat, it mainly prefers cooler periods and becomes dormant in summer. In hot summer conditions, it should be given shade to avoid scorching from intense sunlight. Watering ought to be reduced or stopped during the hottest season to prevent root rot. It exhibits vigorous growth in winter and spring, and so long as temperatures do not fall too low, it will continue to grow steadily.

For Sempervivum montanum subsp. montanum, light applications of fertilizer once or twice a year during the growing season are adequate. Do not fertilize in winter or in summer when the plant is dormant. Cut back on fertilizer for repotted plants and wait a couple of months after repotting before applying any. Fertilizing helps maintain healthy growth and promotes flowering.
