A note from PlantMom

Bristle-leaved feather grass displays strong resistance to disease and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. In terms of upkeep, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. Planted outdoors, it needs only minimal watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller specimens, however, should be pruned after they have finished blooming. Bristle-leaved feather grass is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or a deck, and does not demand extensive gardening experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Stipa Tirsa.

Light

Bristle-leaved feather grass is a sun-loving, perennial herbaceous plant native to open habitats and commonly found in meadows and grasslands. It prefers full sun but can also tolerate partial sun.

Temperature

Bristle-leaved feather grass can tolerate a wide range of temperatures, but its distribution may still be restricted by different combinations of moisture and heat. It performs best in warm summer climates with sufficient rainfall or watering. Extended periods of cloudy, rainy weather or prolonged high temperatures can raise the chance of the grass dying. In winter, proper protection from cold can increase the plant’s survival rate.

Fertilizer

Bristle-leaved feather grass needs extra nutrients to encourage healthy new growth. In spring, placing compost around the base of the plant will effectively supply the nutrition it requires. Fertilizing supports vigorous growth and improves the plant's resistance to diseases and pests.
