ON THIS PLANT
A note from PlantMom

Velvet bentgrass is resistant to diseases and generally not susceptible to them. In terms of care, this plant is fairly low maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller specimens, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Velvet bentgrass is suitable for anyone who has an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not need much prior plant-care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Agrostis Alpina.

Light

Velvet bentgrass is a sun-loving perennial herbaceous plant native to open habitats, commonly thriving in meadows and grasslands. It prefers full sun but can also tolerate partial sun.

Temperature

Velvet bentgrass can tolerate a wide span of temperatures, but its distribution can still be restricted by various combinations of water and heat. It does best in warm summer climates when there is sufficient rainfall or irrigation. Extended periods of cloudy, rainy weather, as well as prolonged high temperatures, can raise the chance of Velvet bentgrass dying. In winter, shielding it from cold can improve its survival rate.

Fertilizer

Velvet bentgrass is a cool-season grass that primarily grows in spring and fall. It becomes dormant in winter and its growth slows in summer. Applying appropriate fertilizers in spring can supplement nutrients and encourage vigorous, dense growth. Lawns that are adequately nourished are greener, resilient, and resist pests and weeds.
