ON THIS PLANT

Cereus stenogonus, also known as narrow-angled cereus, is a species of Cereus found in Bolivia and Paraguay.

A note from PlantMom

Cardon mesopotamico displays strong resistance to disease and tolerates normal care routines without becoming ill easily. It can, however, be vulnerable to mealybugs; these pests may cause some harm but are typically not a major danger. Regarding care, Cardon mesopotamico is drought-tolerant and does not require frequent watering. It can endure extended intervals without water and needs little fertilizer. Still, it is very prone to root rot if kept in poor light and given too much water. In general, Cardon mesopotamico is a good choice for people who prefer low-maintenance plants, but its basic needs should still be met. It is especially appropriate for those who are away for long stretches and might often forget to water their plants.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Cereus Stenogonus.

Light

Native to arid areas, Cardon mesopotamico prospers in full sun; its native habitat features intense sunlight and very little shade. It will also tolerate partial sun, giving it some adaptability in growth.

Temperature

Cardon mesopotamico prefers warm conditions and requires higher temperatures during the growing season to support growth and metabolism. It benefits from plenty of sunlight, suitable moisture levels, and good air circulation. However, it is vulnerable to harm from very low temperatures and from overwatering. It is also important to maintain balance and avoid both excessively high temperatures and overly dry conditions.

Fertilizer

For Cardon mesopotamico, light applications of fertilizer once or twice a year during the growing season are enough. Do not fertilize in winter or summer when the plant is dormant. Cut back on fertilizer for repotted plants and wait a couple of months after repotting before you start fertilizing. Fertilizing helps maintain healthy growth and promotes flowering.

Pruning

The Cardon Mesopotamico requires minimal pruning. Concentrate on removing dead flowers and branches to help the plant allocate nutrients for healthy growth.
