The Yunnan crabapple has good resistance to disease and is generally not prone to illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is relatively low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs minimal watering, and larger plants usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Yunnan crabapplet is suitable for people who have outdoor spaces like a garden or deck, and it does not demand much care experience.
How to keep Malus Yunnanensis.
Light
Yunnan crabapple is native to open habitats, like sunlit meadows and forest margins, that receive plenty of light. It performs best in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, showing good adaptability to different light conditions.
Temperature
Yunnan crabapple is fairly adaptable to heat and wide temperature fluctuations. In hot weather, attention should be paid to watering and providing adequate shade to avoid sunburn. Its tolerance to cold, however, is relatively weak. Although it can endure some cold, very low temperatures can cause frost damage.
Fertilizer
Timing is vital when fertilizing Yunnan crabapple. Apply fertilizer in early spring and continue monthly until early summer. Fertilizer promotes attractive blooms and supplies energy during both dormant and active growth phases.
