Najas marina is a species of aquatic plant known by the common names spiny water nymph, spiny naiad and holly-leaved naiad. It is an extremely widespread species, reported across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, the Americas and many oceanic islands. It can be found in many types of freshwater and brackish aquatic habitat, including bodies of alkaline water.
Spiny naiad is highly resistant to disease and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. In terms of care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When planted outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have bloomed. Spiny naiad is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or deck, and does not require extensive care experience.
