A note from PlantMom

The Puerto Rico royal palm has strong disease resistance and is generally not susceptible to diseases. Regarding care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs minimal watering, and larger specimens typically do not need pruning. However, smaller plants should be pruned after they have flowered. The Puerto Rico royal palm is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or deck, and does not require extensive care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Roystonea Borinquena.

Light

The Puerto Rico royal palm is native to open habitats, such as sunny meadows and forest edges, where light is abundant. It does best in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, adjusting well to different sunlight levels.

Temperature

Puerto Rico royal palm comes from tropical areas, where the climate is generally warm and humid. Consequently, it is well adapted to high temperatures and moisture. It does not tolerate sudden temperature shifts and prefers a consistent thermal environment, so it is important to prevent temperature fluctuations indoors. It usually cannot withstand cold and needs warmer conditions to grow. If the surrounding temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

Fertilizer

Fertilize your Puerto Rico royal palm in early spring to support healthy growth. Regular feeding boosts the palm’s overall health, producing vigorous growth, increased tolerance to harsh conditions, and enhanced resistance to pests and diseases. Follow a specific fertilization schedule for your Puerto Rico royal palm to keep the foliage vibrant, richly colored, and lush in appearance.
