ON THIS PLANT

Tillandsia bourgaei is a species of flowering plant in the family Bromeliaceae. This species is endemic to Southern Mexico and Central America. This species was described and the name validly published by John Gilbert Baker in 1887.

A note from PlantMom

Tillandsia bourgaei has moderate disease resistance but is more vulnerable to problems from humidity and overwatering. It becomes even more prone to disease if it lacks light and is overwatered. Regarding care, Tillandsia bourgaei is drought-tolerant and can go long periods without watering. It needs little fertilizer and only occasional pruning. These characteristics make it appropriate for people at any skill level, especially those who prefer to spend less time on plant care or who may be away from home for long stretches. It’s a good choice for anyone who doesn’t want to devote much time to tending plants yet still wants one that’s easy to maintain.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Tillandsia Bourgaei.

Light

The origin of Tillandsia bourgaei is in places that have speckled sunlight, like the lower regions of forests or stony regions, where the natural shade is present. Though its preference is for semi-sunny conditions, it can withstand complete sunlight as well.

Temperature

Tillandsia bourgaei does best in warm conditions. If temperatures fall too low, it may stop growing or suffer frost damage. It tolerates high heat and humidity well and requires a steady level of moisture in its surroundings. However, very high temperatures and humidity can increase its susceptibility to fungal infections. In dry conditions, frequent watering and misting are necessary to maintain adequate air humidity. The plant is sensitive to sudden temperature changes, so keeping the temperature relatively stable is important.
